Jen Wordens Challenge-Finish up an old project

Well those of you who read my blog have seen this girl before. I have had her hanging around the studio unfinished for ages. I dont know why probably because I was unhappy with her. That is why I never did the other side. So I took the challenge just to get her finished I only had a few things left. I added a stencil some paint etc. Then I got the brian wave to use wax. Okay my first time and probably my last, I did not like the way it looked. Then I tried scrapping the wax off, and ended up with this. So here she is in all her glory, scrapped and faded and looking like she has been in a fight for her life. Lets just say she is going in the back of the closet....Any tips on using wax would be helpful for next time...

  1. You might be a little tough on yourself! I like the way she looks. She only looks a bit time worn and that's not something bad.

I've never used wax so I don't have any tips but I'd say keep trying.

  2. I think you are too hard on yourself, Lee. Put her in the closet, wait two months, and then pull her out again. You might be surprised!

Sorry, I haven't used wax either.

  3. You want to put her away? I think she looks good! Well, I used wax before but I'm not too convinced about it. Takes to long to melt and than adding stuff with wax is not that fun either, so making it short unfortunately I can't help you with tips that much. I know a friend, she loves to collage with wax and her creations look awesome, but it's not my thing. Isn't Suzyblue having a video about it? Smiles, Anke ;)
PS: Did you enjoy your fresh made muffins?

  4. I think she looks great!!
Working with wax can be fiddly on a larger project. Have you thought of using Golden Heavy Gel Matte for a faux wax effect? It is easier to work with as it doesn't solidify as quickly as wax.

  7. From what I can tell the texture looks great. I have never used wax before. So I don't know what it is supposed to look like. Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure you will feel different later on, with a fresh set of eyes.

  10. duh, I forgot to say: I have a mini crockpot on the corner of my studio desk, dumped all my wax pellets into it. When you turn it on low in advance of starting any wax work, by the time you get ready for it, it's all melted and ready to go. And I bought a teensy little iron at Michael's, which I keep heated up whenever I'm working with wax -- once you drizzle or drip or paint your areas with wax, you can run the iron over it to even it all out, or to heat it if you want to drop glitter or something into it. I LOVE wax, but definitely still learning.
